Domain Name Sales Activity – 23rd May to 29th May

Winter might be on our doorstep but that hasn’t dampened the spirits of our customers, with Netfleet involved with the exchange of three premium domain names over the course of the last week.

Officially exchanging hands on the 26th of May was the week’s highest selling domain, with the finance trend emerging once again after a week out of the spotlight. On this occasion the domain in question was financemycar.com.au, which settled for a final sum of $2,029.45. The domain’s new owner is a sole trader, and while details are limited on how the site will be used, the descriptive keywords and SEO appeal are notable aspects that would prompt the domain’s use for commercial purposes within the car financing sector.

It is also conceivable this domain will benefit from the industry tailwinds within said sector, given: news the Fringe Benefits Tax will be spared changes by a potential Labor government; a sustained low interest rate environment; and after 2015 was a record year for Australian new car sales with over a million vehicles sold. All these factors suggest Australians will continue to search for new cars in record numbers, a trend likely to benefit domain owners in this space.

Also settling on the 26th of May after an earlier sale, clw.com.au sold for $1,831.45. The domain, previously utilised by C & L Wholesalers, has since been secured by Intuition Education Australia Pty Ltd, a NSW based company that provides educational coaching to HSC students through a network of teachers and tutors that have demonstrated academic merit.

A three letter domain of this nature is primarily valued for the short nature of its name, something deemed more recognisable from a marketing perspective, and which allows an end user more flexibility in how it utilises such a domain. As in this case, with the registrant using a longer domain name in intuitioneducation.com.au, the company may now opt to use a shorter domain for purposes such as a spin-off service, a secondary institute, or as a potential change in company name to align with other educational providers who often use three letter domains.

Last but certainly not least, the third premium domain brokered by Netfleet this last week was flag.com.au, which sold on the 24th of May for $1,542.15. While the site is currently offline, the new owner and registrant of this keyword-focussed domain is a private domain investment company.

With regards to the domain’s keyword, the term “flag” is one that has enjoyed a steady degree of search volume amongst an Australian audience over the last 10 years, with a notable proportion of regional interest coming from Northern Territory and Tasmania. More specifically, on a monthly basis, “flag” is searched 2,900 times by Australians, while the domain’s Cost-Per-Click sits at $3.07, with a Domain Authority of 20. With this in mind, and relative to the price paid, it certainly appears that there will be sufficient liquidity for this investment company to onsell the domain in the future for a profit.

That’s it for this occasion, stay tuned for the latest updates in our next post.
