Domain Name Sales Activity – 30rd May to 5th June

As we rounded out a busy month in May, the start of June has shown promising signs that our customers are always on the lookout for one of Netfleet’s bargains. Below we bring you the sales results for the premium domains sold this last week, 30th May to 5th June.

Taking out the week’s top sale was a rare two letter domain, lr.com.au, which sold on the 30th of May for a notable $4,937.85. Given the limited availability of such short configuration domains, it’s no surprise to see this domain was well sought after, with a private domain company eventually picking up the acquisition. Because of their ability to be used as abbreviations, as well as a short, very easy name to remember, two letter domains have regularly featured among the highest selling domains (internationally).

Among the key indicators of this domain: Australians search for the term “lr” 880 times per month via Google; the domain’s Cost-Per-Click is $3.79; and the site’s Domain Authority score is 15. It’s easy to see from these figures that the value in a two letter domain typically extends beyond the actual performance of the site – instead, the value is often derived from the liquidity associated with it.

Featuring impressively among the week’s highest selling domains was the second biggest seller for the week, rhg.com.au. After an earlier sale, the domain was exchanged and the transfer settled on the 2nd of June, with the final price being $2,117.45. In this instance the buyer was Rain Harvesting Pty Ltd, a leading developer and supplier of Australian sustainable water systems.

Currently operating under the much longer domain in rainharvesting.com.au, the immediate benefits are apparent for this new owner by way of a shorter domain name that acts as an abbreviation for their current business name, and one that will be easier for its customers to remember. The term “rhg” is one that for the most part, has been consistent in terms of search engine volume, however, from late 2007 to late 2010 it experienced a boost by way of the GFC.

Rightly taking up its place in the list for the week’s highest selling domains was xer.com.au, selling for $1,897.45. In what is another example that Netfleet is able to help businesses find their ideal domain, the new owner of this domain is XER Pty Ltd. Details are somewhat limited on the particular company, however, its affiliated registrant is currently an international footwear company, exporting products worldwide. Whether this company will use this newly acquired domain for complementary purposes is unknown, however, a three letter domain will provide them with flexibility to grow their business.

Rounding out last week’s premium domain name sales, airportcarrentals.com.au takes its place as the fourth highest selling domain after it sold for $1,762.15 on the 31st of May. The buyer of the domain is a private domain broker, who also happens to be a serial entrepreneur with an array of businesses that extend to the travel and leisure segments, including airportcarhire.com.au. As such, the new keyword oriented domain will fit in perfectly with the owner’s portfolio, not only offering an alternative to redirect and capture additional web traffic for airport car rentals (searched 140 times per month by Australians), but also as a potential domain investment.

That’s it for this occasion, stay tuned for the latest updates in our next post.
