Some figures on how the domain name aftermarket is faring.

As we say goodbye to summer, we wanted to share some figures on how the domain name aftermarket is faring, particularly on Netfleet. We’re happy to say that business is booming! In November, as you will know, we integrated our aftermarket domain auctions into our daily snapper auctions for expired domains. The rationale was that it seemed that the expired domain auctions were stealing the limelight when there were some great names being put up for sale by you, our members, that deserved more attention. We also made it completely free to add reserves if your name is at Netfleet [...]

CreditReport.com.au tops the Standard Catalogue Listing sales

With the sale of CreditReport.com.au this month we now have a two way tie at the top of our Top Standard Catalogue Listing Sales between CreditReport.com.au and CurrencyConverter.com.au at $27,500 (xGST and Transfer costs). It is worth remembering that very few big sales ever get reported publicly so this is a rare opportunity for us to see the true retail value of a quality generic domain name. The domain sale was negotiated through Netfleet’s Standard Catalogue Listing process which is currently a totally free service offered to buyer and sellers of .au domain names. Once the sale price was agreed [...]

6 Month Prohibition on Change of Registrant Removed!

Today is the day that the 6 month prohibition on change of registrants has finally been removed. Now, you are free to transfer a domain name to a different registrant with no waiting period. You could register an Australian domain name in the morning, and sell it to another party by the afternoon. The updated policy from auDA (the .au Domain Administrators) can be found here: http://www.auda.org.au/policies/auda-2011-03/ However, it is very important to note, that under auDA policy: “..a registrant may not register a domain name for the sole purpose of resale or transfer to another entity.  Where a registrant [...]

InvestmentProperty.com.au breaking all records

Today we saw the purge and subsequent snapping of InvestmentProperty.com.au. It was a very exciting auction with the price breaking our previous highest sale of Electricity.com.au for 30K with more than an hour left on the auction. When the hammer fell at one minute to one we had a new record highest sale price at Netfleet.com.au of $125,001 (xGST). This is the highest publicly recorded sale of a .com.au at this time with only the domain included – a clear indicator of how the Australian domain name market has matured over the past few years. Amazingly, this domain was allowed [...]

auDA removing 6 month rule!

In June 2008 auDA removed the prohibition on selling domains names, or effectively performing a change of registrant, and created the Transfers (Change of Registrant) Policy (2008-08). This was a great, and long overdue, step towards creating a legitimate domain name aftermarket whereby domain investors could buy and sell domains for any reason, albeit with a few provisions, such as prohibiting the sale of a domain name within 6 months of registering. As a result of the findings from a Secondary Market Working Group who discussed many aspects of the .AU secondary market recently, auDA has agreed that “The six [...]

Facebook Like and Google +1 Your Listings

We’ve made a small tweak to the standard listings for sale page for every domain, and added in the ability to Facebook Like and Google +1 your listings. We have also updated the home page to include all those listings that have been recently Google +1′d or Facebook Liked! With the proliferation of social media being used to share information and push a message, we thought it important to provide this ability to recommend your domain name listings to people on Facebook, and across the Google empire. This will be a massive help in increasing the exposure your domain names [...]

Top five tips on completing sales

I thought I’d take a moment to share a few tips given to me over the years by the most successful .com.au sellers I know. 1) Add a “for sale” banner to your website This is an obvious one, but is often overlooked as it requires some effort/planning. If your domain is less than 6 months old, put up a notice that you are intending to develop the site and a contact form for anyone wishing to be made aware once you go live. Put a reminder in your calendar to review your plans after 6 months and if your [...]

We’ve got a great selection of web banners to use for our Affiliates, or of course anyhow who wants to use them! We hope the banners will add a bit of colour and attraction to otherwise mundane affiliate links, and help push referrals, and increase your affiliate revenue. The below images all have example HTML you can use, however, it is extremely important that you update with your unique affiliate ID otherwise you will not be attributed to the referral. In the HTML, simply replace the part that says <REPLACE_THIS_PART> with your unique affiliate ID you obtained when you signed [...]
