How to Improve Your Website’s Domain Authority

When it comes to building the prominence of your website, Domain Authority is one of the most critical components. For those unfamiliar with the criteria, Domain Authority is a metric (a score out of 100) which is used amongst web gurus and domainers to gauge traffic flow and ranking in Google searches – relative to other websites. The metric is formulated from a number of different components – the most prolific of these is backlinks, however others include content quality, loading times, web traffic and domain age. Backlinks are the number and quality of links that point towards your site […]

Understanding the WHOIS Search Service

One of the common features available to domain registrants all around the world is the WHOIS search service. The service, operated as a separate repository for each geographical location, is akin to a localised registry for domains. Behind the functional operation of the local service is AusRegistry, who administer and maintain the system on behalf of all users. More specifically, registrants’ details are collected by their respective registrar, who then pass the data onto AusRegistry. Users may look up the contact details of a domain name registrant which they are interested in. In a local context, this includes all the […]

How to Value a Doman Name

Ironically, there are an abundance of websites making a buck from telling you the value of your domain name. However, with the largely subjective nature that accompanies domain names, how can one really gauge an accurate appraisal? Of course, it’s easy to separate premium names from those further down the pecking order, and it’s also obvious enough to pick out the ‘lemons’. But what about differentiating between domains which are traded more regularly? As with many things, the value of an item is only representative of what someone is prepared to pay for it. Now, in the domain realm, this […]

Domain Name Investing – What Should I Consider?

When we started our educational articles several weeks ago, the first topic we covered gave end users an idea around how to choose the right domain name. The other side of the equation concerns domainers, who view their acquisitions as investments. Accordingly, there are different considerations that domainers often give thought to.   Portfolio Management Like with any investment, domainers often consider spreading their risk across a diverse range of holdings. In this particular context, that means several domain names. While some consider a portfolio comprising exclusively of short domains (which are generally valued dearer) as desirable, the reality is, some […]

Weekly Domain Name Summary – 11th April to 17th April

The last week was a relatively quiet one for local domain names sold through Netfleet, but that didn’t stop a couple of our customers picking up a great deal. The highest sale for the week was for the domain name titled rock.com.au, which was secured by its new owner on the 12th of April for $3,679.45. There are an endless amount of related keywords that accompany this name when performing a standard Google search – in fact, around 1.77B search results are found for things such as: music, celebrity profiles, products, services, sayings and the like. When assessing the number […]

Netfleet Security Breach – Update

Dear All As per previous email communication to all clients earlier today, there was a security breach of our database at Netfleet. Since learning of the intrusion, we took Netfleet.com.au offline and have been taking steps to address the vulnerability that led to this incident. We have been cooperating with the AFP and Cert Australia conducting an exhaustive investigation in this matter. We have since found the source of the vulnerability in the 3rd party software used, and applied a permanent fix. Furthermore, we have taken additional security measures beyond this intrusion. We have rebuilt the server from the ground […]

Why .com is NOT king!

There’s a common misconception among domainers that the best investment in domains is .com. This is patently not true – in fact .com domains have been a terrible investment over the last few years and prospects continue to look dire.
