auDA – Netfleet Domain Blog https://www.netfleet.com.au/blog Netfleet.com.au | The .AU Aftermarket Tue, 26 Sep 2017 03:26:07 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=4.7.3 6 Month Prohibition on Change of Registrant Removed! https://www.netfleet.com.au/blog/domain-sales/6-prohibition-on-change-of-registrant-removed/ https://www.netfleet.com.au/blog/domain-sales/6-prohibition-on-change-of-registrant-removed/#comments Wed, 09 Nov 2011 22:39:01 +0000 http://www.netfleet.com.au/blog/?p=525 Today is the day that the 6 month prohibition on change of registrants has finally been removed. Now, you are free to transfer a domain name to a different registrant with no waiting period. You could register an Australian domain name in the morning, and sell it to another party by the afternoon.

The updated policy from auDA (the .au Domain Administrators) can be found here:

http://www.auda.org.au/policies/auda-2011-03/

However, it is very important to note, that under auDA policy:

“..a registrant may not register a domain name for the sole purpose of resale or transfer to another entity.  Where a registrant is found to have breached this policy rule, auDA reserves the right to cancel the domain name licence and delete the domain name.”

The changing of ruling is a great move for the fluidity of domain name sales in Australian, and an important step in creating a less restrictive aftermarket in Australia.

Best wishes,
Mark

auDA removing 6 month rule! https://www.netfleet.com.au/blog/australian-domains/auda-removing-6-month-rule/ https://www.netfleet.com.au/blog/australian-domains/auda-removing-6-month-rule/#comments Mon, 05 Sep 2011 05:56:27 +0000 http://www.netfleet.com.au/blog/?p=246 In June 2008 auDA removed the prohibition on selling domains names, or effectively performing a change of registrant, and created the Transfers (Change of Registrant) Policy (2008-08).

This was a great, and long overdue, step towards creating a legitimate domain name aftermarket whereby domain investors could buy and sell domains for any reason, albeit with a few provisions, such as prohibiting the sale of a domain name within 6 months of registering.

As a result of the findings from a Secondary Market Working Group who discussed many aspects of the .AU secondary market recently, auDA has agreed that “The six month prohibition on registrant transfers should be removed.”.

This is another great step towards building our domain industry, and further shows the modernisation that is occurring at auDA. Please note – this policy has not yet changed – and we will update you as soon as it does!
