TRAFFIC Down Under Reviewed

The first ever TRAFFIC conference held outside of the US has now finished and was considered a fantastic success by all attendees (some experienced conference-goers were saying the best ever!).

Held at the Sheraton Mirage on the Gold Coast and hosted by the guys and girls at Fabulous, the event passed off spectacularly despite sometimes inclement weather and a few technical hiccups.

As the first domaining conference I’ve attended, it was a real eye-opener to see so many professionals in this industry coming together and making connections.  If I ever needed any confirmation that domaining could bring seriously significant opportunities then this was it.

Around 200 people attended the conference in the end about 40% of which were Australians, many of whom were attending a show like this for the first time.  It was especially interesting to see how many people have been and were actively investing in .au.  I guess because of tighter regulations in the past (ie prohibition of sale, ‘close & substantial connection’ rules) and the lack of organised get-togethers like this the .AU market has maintained a fairly low profile, however this event may be the event that turns that on its head.  Interestingly, we have seen a definite increase in activity on Netfleet since the conference, with offers on domain names coming thick and fast.

The fantastic sales results obtained for the com.au domains in the live auction and important relationships forged will surely mean that this little industry will go from strength to strength.
